In literary history, the works of the Roman satirist Lucilius are typically considered among the pre-classical and republican poetry, the end of which is marked by the emergence of the personal poetics of Catullus, amongst others. This volume analyzes Lucilius' oeuvre to show that this author already demonstrated all the typical characteristics of personal poetics - focusing on himself, his opinions and experiences and, moreover, adopting a politically and literary provocative and oppositional position.
